3 Useful Guide On Handling Self- Restlessness

Every human needs a level of Self-restlessness at one point of  their life or the other. Self -restlessness is a state of feeling unsatisfied with your current state, position, achievements and often the urge and desire to do more. For most growing adults, they have this  experience because they sense the importance of fulfilling their dreams be it career wise, professionally, relationships or in Families. Most of this Self-restlessness can be categorized as desire to change level, position or status.  A typical example of Self-restlessness is that experienced by fresh graduate wanting to climb the ladder of his career.

 

The fact that we all experience some level of Self- restlessness in our lives doesn’t mean that we pacify it the same way. Some see this period as a means to  pay a price and seize new opportunities,  others take the feeling negatively and end up in depression.

In our generation ,  Alcohol and Drug addiction has had a greater effect on our youth more than ever. Most Youth desire a stimulant to spur them to take action on their dreams. Whilst this post will not be addressing  ways to break free from unhealthy habits, it will however be proffering  helpful ways on what to do while experiencing Self- restlessness.

Managing Self- Restlessness

Many a times, we aren’t conscious of ourselves and the happenings within us. We think and talk about the things happening in our society (this is predominately evident). But a level of Self -restlessness is to first understand yourself, the changes happening within you and how your response to situations have been lately. For example: If you constantly get upset about how the kids around your area aren’t utilizing their time well, as you often see them playing around and whiling away time, it may mean that, you need to set up useful events that can engage them.

Acknowledging The Situation As It Is

More often than not, most people cover layers of their pain, issues, using the blanket of hypocrisy. When at a  Self – restless state, do not pretend as though there is no issue on ground. The moment you recognize and acknowledge how you feel, that’s the moment you actually start seek solutions to solving the problem.

Start Doing Something Meaningful

In my mother tongue, Yoruba language ( Dialect of the western people of Nigeria), a proverb says’’ work is the medicine of work’’. When at Self restless state, the best thing to do is to start doing something meaningful. You might say, well, I don’t know what to do at this point.

First things first:

  • Identify the things you do that makes you happy and do them.
  • Explore new things you have always wanted to do.
  • Read voraciously.  The amount of wisdom and direction gotten from reading books is in-quantifiable. In reading, you will begin to see things people are doing and it will give you an insight into what you too can do.
  • Speak to God. This is non-negotiable. It’s only the one who makes and owns the heart that can actually satisfy it . Speak to him in prayers about how you feel and trust him to lead you aright.

Conclusion

Personally for me, I am currently at a Self- restless state. But I am learning that I can help myself easily come out of this state by reading books, opening my eyes to seeing opportunities around me , and maximizing them.
