The topic I have been ruminating over lately is how to deal with pride. On the surface, when you ask most people if they are proud, they could be quick to say they are not. Interestingly, no one wants to hear anything ill spoken about them. But then, this post isn’t even to point fingers, but to serve as a quick check to see if there are certain habits in your life you need to work on.
As I sat on my chair over lunch this afternoon, I thought deeply about this issue of pride. In fact, I won’t even say I haven’t been guilty of this same negative emotion at one point in time or the other, but over time, I have learned that just as the Holy Bible says, pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall.
Do you know what I have noticed about this negative habit called Pride?
It isn’t even about the things you have or don’t have that can make you act in such a pompous way. More often than not, Pride is a state of mind, a disposition, a feeling of; I am better than him, or I am more fantastic than her.
The truth is that everyone is created uniquely by God, to be different and act differently, but howbeit, some people always want others to act like them (This is gist for another day).
See, I have seen the kind of negative energy that pride produces, I have also seen people miss out so much on life because they just wouldn’t bend or allow themselves learn and benefit from others. Pride comes in such a subtle way, that sometimes, you almost would not believe you are exhibiting such until when confronted.
In this post, here are my 3 super magic ways to help you deal with pride
- Be open to learning from anyone at anytime
- Do not despise others, you never know who can be of help to you anyway
- When you need help, be willing to ask for it, no man is an island of knowledge
